The Capco Crane custom made, winding/unwinding machine is to be used for large dock, ship to shore, RTG , container cranes. The machine is built to pull the new wire rope (cables) through the sheaves from the deck below and safely assist anyone that is working to change a large, long wire rope on any large, container crane.
At the same time, it winds up and stores the older cable and as that cable comes off the machine it can wrap up safely and efficiently on the smaller diameter drum. Thus, as the operator unwinds the new cable and pulls it through the sheaves of the container crane, the older damages cable is winding up and being stored. To be properly disposed of at a later date.
The machine automates the entire process and makes it safe and fast and efficient which is a huge improvement over the older process of doing all of this type of work manually……with fork trucks and man power.
The machines saves time, dock space and plenty of manpower!

]]>The crane comes equipped with a special summation limit system that constantly monitors the load on each hook and will not allow either hoist to overpick the rated capacity. This is a smart system that will prevent overloading either hoist as the customer manipulates and spins the heaviest valves they manufacture, with some valves approaching the 40-ton capacity.
Said Mr.Caputo, "The end user was thrilled with the custom installation and applauded the work of the Capco millwright crew. This is actually par for the course at Capco. Our group are always the all-stars at any job site."

]]>Capco is successful over 5 Bidders for a large 15 ton Monobox Bridge Crane
Capco Crane & Hoist recently was pleased to announce that they have finished fabricating and are about to install a large, 15 ton, 75 foot span, 25 foot lift, radio controlled, Mono Box Bridge crane into a large industrial plant in Central Mass.
Capco was awarded the Job, based on quality, price and delivery, and their impeccable reputation for service after the sale. The Customer was interested in finding a company that could team up with their in-house engineering group and design a high quality, single beam that could span the existing 75 foot shop and provide the maximum hook coverage. With height restraints above the runway, a very tight budget, and a need for a nimble faster crane; a double girder design was out of the question and with concerns of end approach, the single Mono Box design fit the requirement… perfectly!
Capco designed and built the custom plate box girder monobox 15 Ton bridge crane in their plant in Rowley, Mass. The Customer was enthused about the design and the opportunity to visit with Capco during the fabrication of the girder and, later in the process, when the crane was put togetherand being electrical piped and wired. It was business as usual for the Capco staff; with another high quality custom built crane that was ready for installation by the Capco Millwrights.
Sales manager, David Caputo, commented, “the customer loved our sole source approach as their prior experiences with other crane companies in the past was to have the girder built in one location and then have the components meeting for the first time at the job site… by millwrights sub contracted for the installation”.
“In the Capco approach; all of the trades and skills are under ONE ROOF in Rowley, MA and where the Capco engineers design the girder and the crane as they see the job done right through from the shop fabrication all the way to the final installation. All of the work is done by Capco staff, and it is a novel concept in this day of sub contractors and smaller shops that cannot build the large capacity, long span cranes for lack of skilled workers or lack of Shop capacity, or sometimes, both.”
At Capco, they built their outstanding reputation on the one stop shopping concept for large Box Girders in the NE region, they are a CMAA member company and their men are skilled at all phases of the crane building process, from design, to the final installation and the after sale service…
As Sales Manager David Caputo, noted: “When it comes to long span, large capacity Box girders, we really are the ONLY logical choice and if the customer does their homework and goes to visit other fabrication shops in the NE region; no one has the shop capacity or the crane capacity that we have in Rowley Mass. We always welcome the bidders or end users to come check us out and we tell them, ‘go see the other guys and then you tell us, who is best equipped to build the Big Stuff’. We feel that Capco Crane is the Best and Most Logical choice”.

]]>Capco Crane & Hoist has built some clean room cranes in the past – a few at one ton and a few others at three tons and five tons – but nothing on the scale of this very large cleanroom crane. Capco worked with a major specialty hoist manufacturer in the Southwest to design a stainless steel, twenty-ton trolley hoist. All the moving parts were to be stainless, including the drum, sheaves, rope and wheels. On top of that, the hoist was VFD, Flux Vector controlled, to be run with a speed variation of 1000 to 1, from the lowest creep speeds to the high speeds and all the steps in between. The bridge and the trolley motions were also VFD controlled. The crane had a full-length service platform and a radio control with a push-button backup.
Finally, the most unique feature on the crane was the design and engineering of a special HEPA vacuum system. The system has hoses that travel throughout the bridge and are attached to a collection of wands that are mounted and articulate in any areas with moving parts and wheels or drums – any possible area on the crane that can turn, rotate, rub or move. These wands point to the area and the vacuum system sucks up any particulate or debris that might be created. Debris is minimal because the stainless steel construction, but are vacuumed up anyway, ensuring that a minimal amount of dust, debris, or particulate matter comes off the crane at any given time, no matter what motion the crane is running. This is a great system and a great design, all created for this particular project by the Capco Crane engineering group.
Are you facing a big challenge on any crane job? No worries, call Capco Crane & Hoist. If they haven’t already done a similar project in the past, they will figure a good way to do it… no doubt!

]]>Capco Crane and Hoist Inc. is pleased to announce the opening of a sales and service operation in Plainville, CT. The sales/service office was established to better serve the Connecticut market and its customer base heading southwest. The office is managed by Mr. Ken Caron, a career “crane man”, who holds both an R9 and R10 crane license. In addition, they have several veteran service technicians, who live in Connecticut and also have R10 certification and license. The office and the local staff became a necessity due to all of the additional accounts in the Connecticut area that Capco has picked up over the past 2 years.
Sales Manager Mr. David F. Caputo reports, “we needed to respond to our customers needs and provide sales and service technicians that lived in close proximity to these accounts that were just exploding with business opportunities for us. But, as always, we needed to add the right people that would add something special to the overall team concept that is “Capco” and we feel we accomplished that and then some. The new staff has already made a great improvement over the level of service and responsiveness that we can now offer to the Connecticut-based accounts. We always prided ourselves on response time and with the addition of several high profile Connecticut-based accounts it was getting to be very challenging to handle all of the New England service business out of Massachusetts with our own Massachusetts based service crew. Therefore, the new staff in Connecticut has been the perfect complement to the existing service staff based in Massachusetts. We could always respond the same day to emergency service calls in Connecticut, but now we can respond to breakdowns within an hour or two, depending on the work load on any given day.”
The sales staff has also won contracts in states like West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Florida and thus, the new CT staff can also help with their response time in the Southeast part of the country. Contact Capco Crane & Hoist Inc. Today at 1-800-422-7261!Again, adding a veteran, experienced crew allows them to provide more coverage and grow the business beyond New England. The word has spread quickly and they are seeing more and more opportunities to quote and win business in Connecticut. Capco is proud to announce that they recently completed two large retrofit projects for Pratt & Whitney in Middletown, CT. Paul Cardone of Pratt ” Whitney was enthusiastic in his praise of Capco’s services. “The consistent coordination effort and open lines of communication between Capco Crane, in-house engineering and trades was always conducted in a professional manner,” he said. “Capco Crane never lost sight or focus on customer satisfaction throughout this project. Capco Crane & Hoist delivered a high-quality product backed up with constant personal attention, which made my customers very satisfied with the final product.
Capco also won a huge project in Waterbury,CT for a freestanding runway system and two large capacity double girder cranes. The local service was instrumental in helping them secure both of those exciting projects. The new cranes and equipment will be fabricated in the new Capco facility up in Rowley, MA. and the service will be handled by the Plainville office.
The future looks very bright for Capco and the state of Connecticut has just gained another local service business that they can be proud of and call their own. The goal of the Capco sales staff is to make sure all Connecticut-based companies realize that CAPCO now has a permanent location in their state and they hope to provide great local service and support for many years to come.
